ORGANIZATION: School the World

School the World is looking for U.S.-based nurses to attend our Student Service Learning Program in Guatemala this summer! We have two trips coming up in July and are looking for nurses that can travel with us for a nine-day service trip with high school students. Our volunteer nurses will get an all-expenses-paid trip to help students build a school, get to know our staff and form close relationships with the parents and their children in rural Guatemala! The dates are July 15-23 or July 25-August 2, 2019. Please check out our website for more information about our programs: http:// schooltheworld.org/ If anyone is interested in volunteering as a nurse during one of the weeks listed above, they can please contact Natalie at natalie.hambor@ schooltheworld.org for more details! We would be happy to discuss this opportunity more in-depth. Thank you for your time!

Mission Statement

School the World is a non-profit organization committed to solving extreme poverty through the power of education.

Description

Our strategy is to work at the grass-roots level and organize communities around education from early childhood through adolescence. On our journey to creating a more just world, our Global Citizenship Program amplifies our impact at home and abroad.

One very important part of the equation for long-term impact is our ability to partner with local governments. Every community we invest in, the local government donates the land, raw materials and/or labor to help with the school build. We supplement their resources with our expertise, resources and experience.

Our work is built on the belief that lasting change can only happen by:

  • creating a safe place for children to learn and thrive
  • securing physical and financial commitment from local government
  • deeply empowering parents through bi-monthly educational workshops
  • providing on-going training for teachers
  • supplying much needed books and learning materials
  • constantly measuring for improvement and success
  • nurturing global leaders through our Student Service Learning Program
