People need people and especially those who are hospice Patients and their families. Many people spend there last days at home, being cared for there. Hospice Patient Companions provide a breath of fresh air for Patients to get the love and compassion from another person. For those caring for the Patient, a break from the day to day care. For those loved ones who are under the strain of seeing that loved one weakening and moving closer to the end, it can help them get refreshed and strengthened. Just an hour here and there shared, can make such a difference.

Only those who love people, and want to give a smile, a kind word and show compassion to their fellow person nee call. But if your are that person, call ! You are so needed !

Description

Canon Hospice operates 3 offices in Lousiana; New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Covington, and one office in Gulfport, Ms. We hoping to recruit volunteers for the Gulfport office at this time. Canon began approximately 10 years ago in New Orleans, La. when family member of the Akula family were not satisfied with the hospice care a family member received there. The family felt they could provide a quality of care they would want and that patient and families deserved. The Akula foundation was formed as a non-profit to raise funds support ancilliary efforts such as underwritting indigent patients, a camp for children who had experienced the loss of a loved one, a annual Celebration of life event for familes who had lost someone the past year, to support Grief Support Groups and any other community resource to help patients and their families. As a part of the hospice service package, families receive Bereavement Services for up to 13 months following the passing of their loved one. The Bereavement Services include Condolence Card, Grief Educational materials, individual Grief Counseling, visits from staff and volunteers, Grief Support Groups, and referrals for Professional Grief Counseling. Canon Hospice has maintained a 4 star rating with the Better Business Bureau and excellent satisfaction reports from families we've served. Canon Hospice continues to seeks ways to better serve the public and with the help of our volunteers, we will offer more.
