Yonder Prairie, an Illinois Nature Preserve, is a 70-acre wet prairie, sedge meadow and oak savanna complex. Since 2009, volunteers have been clearing invasive shrubs and trees, rejuvenating the bare, shaded ground-layer and turning it into a lush, diverse ecosystem. There are still areas of the preserve that need to be restored, so come on out and lend a hand!
Volunteers are needed to remove invasive species that prohibit the growth of native trees and plants. All year long we cut brush such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and small willows with chainsaws and hand loppers. You can cut and/or help build and burn brush piles.
No experience is necessary, so if you love being outside, come join our team of friendly volunteers! Tools and light refreshments are provided. Please dress in long pants, sturdy shoes and old clothing for working near a burn pile.
Workdays at Yonder Prairie take place the third Saturday and Sunday of each month.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to preserve scenic, natural and agricultural resources in McHenry County by working with private landowners, communities and developers.
Description
Since 1991, The Land Conservancy has helped protect over 2,500 acres of McHenry County's prairies, wetlands and woodlands by working with private landowners, communities and other partners. We do this by accepting donated conservation easements and direct acquisition of property (through purchase or donation).
TLC has programs to help preserve land, agricultural land, conserve oak trees and actively restore the properties we own.
We also hold a number of events throughout the year that are opportunities for people to learn about the work TLC does, get involved with TLC, develop new skills and support land preservation in McHenry County.
Events include the Art of the Land fundraiser, Annual Celebration Brunch, our annual rain barrel and composter sale, and our spring and fall native plant sales.
TLC also hosts several restoration workdays throughout the month. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, and no experience is needed to participate. We will train people on basic land restoration techniques that include removal of invasive brush, garlic mustard control and native seed collection.
