There is an increased need to feed our hungry neighbors these days. Be part of the solution on this active team that receives food deliveries every Wednesday from Northern IL Food Bank. Upon delivery, we stock shelves, stow cases, and have some fun along the way!
Volunteer once a month or as often as you'd like. There are different jobs for different talents...We have a small team of lifters, pullers, and pushers of cases and pallets of food. We have another team of shelf stockers and shoppers. We ask that people volunteer who are between the ages of 18-59, who do not have any immune-compromising health conditions, and do not live or work with anyone with immune-compromising health conditions. We require the use of facemasks and gloves (provided) and encourage 6' social distancing.
Here are some things we do every Wednesday:
- Move pallets of food with a pallet jack - dry, refrigerated, frozen foods
- Break down pallets by food items
- Take and stow other items in storage areas
- Take out trash & recycling
- Clean up

Mission Statement
St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry's mission is to serve the hungry in our community. We believe that serving clients with dignity and grace is just as important as the food we give.
Description
We are a partner agency of the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) and a contracted State of Illinois Emergency Food Pantry (EFP).
Our pantry is 100% volunteer run and serves approximately 800 families each month, which amounts to 2,700-3,000 individual family members.
We serve all who are hungry and do not exclude based on a client's zip code, county, or school district. Clients may visit our pantry once every twenty-one days.
Community volunteers unload weekly food deliveries on Wednesdays and then distribute it on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Donations make it possible for us to purchase food from Northern Illinois Food Bank.
We have established partnerships with the Jewel-Osco on Route 59 and Caton Farm Road in Plainfield, IL and across the street at Fresh Thyme in Joliet, and rely on our volunteers to pick up these food donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
We are run 100% by donations and gifts. Visit stjohnfood.org to learn more about us.
