BOARD MEMBER RECRUITMENT

A Child For All, Inc., (ACFA) provides a safe and loving environment for vulnerable children in Mali, West Africa. Children who are living on the streets because they do not have parents who can take care of them are welcomed into a home and receive the nourishment, education, health care and attention necessary to thrive.

ACFA is run by a small and dedicated working board that gathers monthly. Our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization, eager to make a difference in the lives of Malian children.

  • Constant and meaningful involvement provides a high level of satisfaction from board service, and
  • The participation of every board member counts.

We especially welcome candidates with personal or professional experience in West or sub-Saharan Africa, including Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Diaspora Africans living in the U.S. If possible, candidates should reside within commuting distance of the metro Washington, DC area.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

We are currently recruiting a Board member with expertise in the following areas:

Nonprofit Fund Development and Fundraising Expert

This individual will drive ACFA’s development and fundraising strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the philanthropic community and of nonprofit fundraising, particularly in the Washington, DC and/or New York regions. Experience and understanding of USAID and other government grants is helpful.

INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings, in person or via teleconference. Meetings are held in the metro Washington, DC area.

Board members are expected to come to meetings prepared to ask questions, make decisions, and to participate actively in committee work.

Board members will play a role in securing the financial resources necessary for ACFA to achieve its mission, including leveraging personal relationships and connections and making a personal financial contribution each year.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent ACFA to their respective communities and to advocate for ACFA’s mission and programs as appropriate.

Board members are expected to help the Board fulfill its fiduciary duties.

Description

Our current goals are two folds:

Short term goal: GOAL ATTAINED-ABOVE AND BEYOND

We initally intended to raise enough funds to rent a house of the vulnerable children. Instead, thanks to donors like yourself, a house has been donated to us, hence we don't need to spend our scarce financial resources on rent. WE WILL OPEN DOORS TO MALIAN VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN JUNE 2010.

Long term goal: In the long term we would raise enough funds to build our own orphanage on our piece of property.
