This position will support Verner’s mission of delivering high-quality early childhood education by supporting classroom teachers for children ages Birth to 5. This position supports teachers with various tasks including but not limited to reading to children, cleaning and decorating the classroom, joining meal times, and playing games.

This position, under the guidance of Verner’s Volunteer Coordinator, will optimize the abilities of classroom teachers teach and manage the classroom while also providing opportunities for children to engage with members of our community.

Classroom volunteers provide the following activities:

• Storytelling
• Playing games
• Meal-time support
• Cleaning and decorating the classroom
• Singing songs

We are seeking individuals able to commit at least 1+hours/week. Times and days of the week are flexible. Preference given to individuals who envision themselves as long-term volunteers.

Qualifications:

• Individuals volunteering more than twice a week are required to complete a TB screening test.
• All volunteers will be required to submit a physical assessment of health.
• Positive and friendly individuals who take direction well.
• Physical ability to spend 2-4 hours a week on your feet and move frequently from standing to kneeling.
• Experience with young children or an interest in early education preferred.
• Able to commit to a regular schedule for at least three months. Routine and reliability is important for our children.
