Join staff in hosting a special, sensory-friendly event featuring arts with Michelle Davis Petelinz, movement with Sandi Walker, an indoor playground, and much more!

This event will offer accessible accommodations for individuals with Sensory Processing Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The center will provide an accepting and inclusive environment, modifications to sound and lighting, noise canceling headsets, and a quiet room.

Volunteer Duty Description:
Volunteers will help participants with art projects, assist the teacher with set up and clean up, greet families and guide them to where they need to be.

Volunteer Impact:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to support members of the community by working with children and families of all abilities in an inclusive environment.

Work Environment:
Volunteers will work with families and children with sensory processing challenges. The event will take place indoors. Events can be crowded and noisy, but sometimes the events are quiet as it is advertised as a drop-in program. There will be a restroom.

Volunteer Requirements:
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers must have experience working with children who have autism or other sensory processing challenges and must also be very patient. We will teach you about the art projects prior to the event. All volunteers will need to pass a background check before volunteering.

Special Instructions:
We will provide all materials. Volunteers should wear clothes they do not mind getting paint on. Volunteers will be working with and around art supplies such as paint, markers and glue. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes such as sneakers.

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
