Volunteers needed for help at an animal SHELTER! This volunteer opportunity is going to involve lots of cleaning messy critters, so wear clothes and shoes that you can get dirty! You do not need to be able to lift 50lbs or more, many of our volunteers are older or disabled so heavy bags and objects are broken down.
This is a cat and dog shelter so there will be a strong smell, which is why we need more volunteers to help clean in the morning! A personal tip is to take one of your fabric face masks that you probably have and put either essential oil or perfume on the inside if you're bothered by smells.

We have small dogs that need to be worked with, they need to be let in and old, medicated, groomed, and help straighten their kennels back out when they scrunch up their blankets. Socializing the more scared ones, getting them used to taking cookies and being pet is also a task! Teaching manners, spending a couple of moments to show them to sit quiet for a treat can help make a BIG difference when it comes to getting them into homes! We are also a hospice sanctuary, so you will have several very old, decrepit, blind and deaf looking dogs around you at any time!

We also house 6< large dogs and puppies at a time! These dogs needs LOTS of exercise, we have a small dog walking area on the back of the property for this! The floors of the indoor runs just need a mop ran over them a couple of times a day to clean up pee and poop scooped, and the outdoor runs just need poo removed! The bigger dogs benefit from any enrichment that you can provide! We have plenty of toys and treats that you are welcome to combine and set up to help entertain them. If you would like to work on training, most of our big dogs are young and unsocialized so working with them on the basics is greatly appreciated!

We have 4 rooms devoted to cats and kittens! These guys are all very social and loveable, and will gobble up any attention you provide! They need their floors mopped and shelves wiped down since many of our oldies have accidents. We simply dump out all of the litterboxes each morning and add fresh litter, no scooping needed! Once they have their litter and floor cleaned they mostly just need the rooms straightened up, find out where the toys have been shoved and put them back out, fluff up beds ect

Administrative - We always need help answering the phones, responding to emails and updating our shelter manager database (we will show you how to do this - it is quite simple) and writing thank you notes. Taking pictures of cats and dogs and adding them to social media and adoption sites is also something we need help with.

Fundraising/Event - Do you only have a hour or two available once in while? We always need help at adoption or fundraising events. Add your name to the contact list and we will let you know when we need help to see if you are available.

ICU Care - Perfect for those going to school for veterinary medicine or aspiring to be! We house many critical and sick cats and dogs in specific ICU wards. Help clean the individual kennels without contaminating other kennels, clean eyes and nose, do a once over to monitor overall body condition and report to shelter management, observe for any odd signs or illnesses that need to be brought up to a vet along with following instructions on medicating the ones who have been given something. This work counts towards the veterinary technician hours at Strawberry Crest high school, if you are a part of another school and would like the work here to count just have your program head contact us!

Non animal based work - We have lots of laundry that needs to be done every day! Along with cleaning dirty dishes and setting up bowls of dog and cat food for volunteers to distribute to the kennels and rooms. There is also lots of outdoor landscaping work that can be done, along with indoor improvement projects!
