ORGANIZATION: SOUTHERN MAINE AGENCY ON AGING

Organization's mission: Provide transportation to seniors and people with visual impairments in the greater Portland area.

What specific tasks will the volunteer(s) perform? In desired time commitment, driver will provide rides to our member riders, seniors or individuals with visual impairment. The evening before, likely by email, driver will receive the list and descriptions of each ride to be performed. Driver will need to communicate to Rides Coordinator and/or Manager for issues surrounding rides as they arise.

Qualities, experience & skills needed by the volunteers: Clean driving record over past 5 years. Clean criminal background. Love of driving, love of meeting people, the patience and courtesy to assist seniors into and out of cars and into destination facilities or homes.

Where will the volunteer(s) work? On the roads in Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Gorham, Westbrook, Windham, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Freeport.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

Southern Maine Agency on Aging Volunteer Services provides opportunities to make a difference in the community through volunteer service. Volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, meals on wheels, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. We offer maximum flexibility and choice to our volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of the over age 55 volunteer to opportunities in selected imapct service areas to help solve community problems. RSVP volunteers receive supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where they are placed.
