Want to help local immigrants/refugees improve their conversational English skills? Our Conversation Group is held Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm, at Literacy Network (701 Dane St) and our fall semester is Sep 16-Dec 14. We are looking for adults interested in helping out!
This is a facilitated group class for low-income adults needing to improve their English skills, and all instruction is done in English. Volunteers would be trained to work in small groups, following the activities created for them by the instructor. No experience needed! Training is provided.
Conversation Group volunteers must:
*be at least 18yo
*speak English fluently
*be punctual, professional, and reliable (able to attend class every week during the semester)
*have a warm, friendly, outgoing demeanor
*show kind respect for our students, instructors, staff, and other volunteers

Literacy Network teaches reading, writing, communication, and computer skills to Dane County adults so they can achieve financial security, well-being and deeper engagement with their families and the community.
Description
Literacy Network assists adults in Dane County who are low-income and who need help improving their literacy skills, whether they are immigrants/refugees learning English, adults reading/writing below a 5th grade level, or folks studying to pass their GED or high school equivalency exam. We offer free group classes and trained volunteer tutors at locations throughout the Madison area. Programs operate on a three semester schedule: spring, summer, and fall, and we recruit interns and tutors every semester.
