Employment program front desk (Thursday afternoon)
ORGANIZATION: Friendship Place
Please visit the new page to apply.
Being both jobless and homeless is a vicious cycle. You can’t get a job when you don’t have a place to live, and you can’t get a place to live without a job. AimHire offers people a way out. This program empowers participants who are experiencing homelessness and unemployment to find jobs and housing at the same time.
We are looking for a volunteer to cover a Thursday afternoon front desk shift from 1 PM - 5 PM on a weekly basis. Front desk volunteers help greet participants, answer phones, assist participants in the computer lab, and tackle additional projects as needed. Volunteers are also needed who can fill in as substitutes over the summer months. If you have any questions about the volunteer role, please contact Community Engagement Manager, Anne-Marie Buron, at aburon@friendshipplace.org.

About Friendship Place
Location:
4713 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016, US
Mission Statement
At our core, our mission is to help people facing or at risk of homelessness to secure stable housing and embark on a new chapter in their lives. Our ultimate vision is for DC and beyond to be a place where everybody can find a place they can call "home."
Description
Friendship Place is staffed by over 100 people and has a wide reach in the DC Metro area. The highly successful programs have been given numerous awards, and help make a lasting difference in the lives of over 4,500 people yearly through street outreach, free medical and psychiatric clinic, including drop-in care, case management, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing for veterans and their families as well as job placement and specialized programs. Our program results have been incredibly successful, and various government and nonprofit organizations all over the country are studying our models to replicate our achievements.
Nonetheless, Friendship Place-supported by 26 congregations and more than 300 volunteers a year-retains the feel of a small, caring, neighborhood organization. The most commonly repeated refrain we hear from the people who come to us for help is this: "At other agencies, I felt like a number. At Friendship Place, I’m treated like a human being."
