APDC (Victim Assistance) Intern Program:
The Victim Advocate Intern is responsible for providing direct services and case
management to victims of crime within assigned Judicial Districts. The advocate will provide
networking and outreaching to system professionals as well as to the community; and administrative
tasks such as record-keeping and report writing of client services and data. Under general
supervision from Director of Victim Assistance, this position must work well independently and
with teams, while providing excellent, respectful, and confidential customer service and victim
advocacy skills which supports the Asian Pacific Development Center’s mission and values. The
Victim Advocate Intern will build relationships with various service provider agencies and
advance a policy agenda within the criminal justice system or victim advocacy that will benefit the immigrant, and refugee communities in Colorado.
Intern Required Qualifications:
Must have an interest in victim or human services;
Must commit to a minimum 20 hours per week;
Must commit to a minimum of six month;
Must complete online OVC 40 hour training prior to the start date;
Must maintain a high standard of confidentiality and respect for others;
A patient, calm, positive attitude and disposition;
Excellent oral and written communication skills and report writing skills; and
Ability to execute independent judgment, organize and execute work with minimal guidance and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced, high output environment
Intern Preferred Qualification:
Bilingual in Spanish
Prior experience or demonstrate knowledge of victim advocacy and crisis intervention
Strong computer and analytical skills, utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct services through crisis intervention, support, safety planning, and criminal justice advocacy based on victims’ needs and assessments. This position is required to be on call for the 24-hour crisis line on a rotating basis.
- Must follow and accommodate to main office and any other satellite office schedules.
- Report victim cases and updates to the Director of the Victim Assistance Department on a biweekly basis.
- Network with court, law enforcement, and other victim assistance agencies.
- Present cross-cultural training for law enforcement, victim assistance agencies, hospitals, schools, and government agencies.
- Oversee and maintain confidential client records.
- Coordinates, develops, and maintain relationships with multiple judicial districts first-line responders to crime victims, such as law enforcement.
- Assist in developing, monitoring, and evaluating progress towards program goals and objectives.
- Provide appropriate referral information to victims.
- Contribute with other administrative tasks and projects as needed.

The Asian Pacific Development Center is a community-based, nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization founded in 1980 to serve the needs of a growing population of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AA/PI) residents throughout Colorado. APDC operates a licensed Community Mental Health Clinic designated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, innovative Health Promotion and Youth Programs , and a multicultural Interpreters Bank . A trained professional staff provides Culturally Competent services that include: assessment and evaluation, individual and group counseling; case management services; victim assistance services; mentorship, after school, and youth leadership programs; health promotion; interpretation/translation services; as well as cultural competency training and consultation. Services provided are linguistically and culturally appropriate.

Our programs are organized through three major facets of APDC: Health and Wellness, Education and Advocacy. APDC provides culturally-proficient behavioral healthcare services, innovative community education and health promotion to those in need. APDC is the only multi-human service, multi-ethnic agency in Colorado that serves the Asian American/Pacific Islander population. APDC strives to bridge the needs of the community with resources in the various human service systems by providing mental health services (Colorado licensed mental health clinic), victim assistance services, youth programs (after-school, mentorship, leadership), health outreach and education (breast and cervical cancer outreach and prevention, tobacco use prevention, hepatitis B education and screening), health research, ESL/Citizenship classes, and a variety of other programs targeted at the Asian American/Pacific Islander community of Colorado.
