Title: DVSA Medical Advocacy Volunteer
Classification: Volunteer
Volunteer Hours: 3 monthly- 12hr shifts.
Description: The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Volunteer Advocate provides core services to meet the basic and immediate needs of those who experience domestic violence and/or sexual assault. These immediate services include 24-hour crisis intervention, medical advocacy, and offers information and referrals for other needs such as shelter and safety planning.
Responsibilities:
Provide support for victims of sexual assault and/or domestic violence at the hospital before, during, and after the medical forensic examination.
Serve as a resource to answer questions and explain medical procedures, follow up testing, future concerns and questions regarding law enforcement.
Actively listen to and validate victims concerns and support them.
Accurately complete AAFV intake form, report all activities and deliver to Sexual Assault Domestic Violence Medical Advocacy Coordinator at the end of shift
Attend monthly meetings or make arrangements to meet with Medical Advocacy Coordinator if not available for meetings.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years. High school diploma or equivalent.
Complete volunteer application, interview and background check.
Must complete required online Advocacy training and in-person training offered by AAFV.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to respond to Saint Luke’s Cushing within 45 minutes of the initial call.
Sign confidentiality agreement and AAFV required paperwork.
Commit to at least 6 months of volunteer service.

To provide compassionate, consistent, trauma-informed services to every member of Leavenworth County impacted by sexual and/or domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking.
Description
The Alliance Against Family Violence is the first and only sexual and domestic violence advocacy organization that serves all communities in Leavenworth County, Kansas.
The Alliance provides 24/7 crisis intervention, emotional support, and referral services to any individual impacted by sexual or domestic violence. Along with the hotline, the organization provides a confidential shelter to any adult, and dependents under the age of 18.
The organization provides 24/7 support for sexual assault victims who accessed services through law enforcement or forensic exams. Sexual Assault Advocates assist victims by providing emotional support, safety planning, and referrals.
The Alliance also provides Police Response Advocates that respond to incidents of domestic and sexual violence that have been reported to law enforcement.
