The Miracle League of Ottawa is currently looking for volunteers that can help us out on Saturday's anywhere from about 9:50 am until 1 pm. We are looking for people to volunteer in the position of a player buddy which would include supporting children, youth, and adults with disabilities during their time playing baseball. This could include pushing their wheelchairs, helping them when they go up to bat, directing to each of the bases, etc. There is no long-term commitment, however we do have a need for volunteers every Saturday (excluding holiday weekends). We manage our volunteer shifts through singup.com, so we ask that if volunteers know their availability, that they please sign up on this website ahead of time.

Thank you so much for your interest and we look forward to having you as a part of our volunteer team!

About Miracle League of Ottawa

Location:

3659 Navan Road, Ottawa, Ontario K4B 1H9, CA

Mission Statement

A Miracle League aims to provide special-needs children, young adults and adults the opportunity to play the game of baseball on a purpose-built, "Miracle Field".

Description

The Miracle League’s goal is to facilitate an opportunity to play baseball on a safe and more enjoyable custom-designed field with a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries. A Field may also include wheelchair accessible dugouts and a completely flat surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchair-bound or visually impaired players.

With the first field constructed in 1999, there are presently 250 Miracle League Organizations across the US and in Puerto Rico, Canada (Amhertsberg, ON) and Australia. Over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities enjoy play at Miracle League fields.

In the summer of 2012, the Champions for Ottawa Baseball were approached by the Desrochers family from Orleans to help support a dream; a Miracle League field in the Nation’s Capital so Bryce Desrochers, a grade six student, could enjoy the game of baseball in a safe environment. Rolly and Michelle Desrochers know that sports gives their son Bryce, born with cerebral palsy, a great deal of joy.

Presently, the Miracle League of Ottawa is an incorporated non-profit with a Board of Directors and active volunteers, thanks to the support of Sonshine Families, the Rotary Club of Orleans and BFI Canada.
