The role of a crisis response advocate is to assist a survivor of sexual assault through the process of receiving medical care and forensic DNA collection at Peterson Regional Medical Center in cases of sexual assault, domestic violence or child abuse. There are also times in which an advocate would be called to a law enforcement office in Bandera, Kerrville, Boerne or Fredericksburg to sit with a victim as they gave their statement. An advocate would be on call for a 24 hour period from 8 am until the next morning at 8 am, approximately 2-3 times per month. Call schedules are written 3-4 months ahead and for 4 months at a time. Our staff and volunteers readily exchange days with one another when a day does not work out for someone. This truly takes a special kind of person and the comfort that you would provide is incalculable at what can be the darkest time in a person's life. 40 hours of training is provided to receive a Sexual Assault Advocate Certificate. Training can be spread out over a period of time instead of one 40 hour week.
