HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE WITH EXTRAORDINARY LOVE!!
Our mission at Willamette Valley Hospice is to enhance the quality of life for terminally ill persons and their families, to provide bereavement support for the caregivers and families of our patients and members of the community, and to educate the community about the hospice philosophy and prognosis.
Our volunteers do a variety of things:
PATIENT CARE VOLUNTEERS
You can give respite to the family/caregivers of our patients. This is usually spending 3-4 hours per week the patient while the caregiver gets a break. You can also visit patients in facilities. This is usually 1 hour per week. You can read with patient, play board games with patients, or just simply sitting with a patient holding their hands.
You can assist families that have experienced a death of a loved one. You can telephone our bereaved families to give support, help co-facilitate our six week grief support groups for children and adults. You can help at our Memorials and help with our summer camp.
You can help in the office with mailings, stuffing envelopes, gathering statistics, assisting with special projects, filing and data entry. You can also participate in our Speaker's Bureau which is going out and educating the community on hospice. Assisting with special events and fundraising.
We have many opportunities helping us in the office with mailings, packet assembly, data entry, phone calls and much more
We ask that you are at least 12 years of age to help in the office or with special projects and at least 16 for direct patient contact. We have many great opportunites for teens. Annual scholarships, community service, meet new people and much more.
PET THERAPY AND LIFE REVIEW
Volunteers can support our patients and family with Pet Therapy. There is additional certification required for this. We also offer Life Review. Which is helping our patients leave a life story for his/her family
You can choose what type of volunteering you would like to do, you choose how often and in what geographical area. We are very flexible and will work with you on how it is you want to make a difference.
