Need something to do this summer? Want to enhance the lives of others? Want to bring smiles and happiness to people? Want to have a great feeling of satisfaction in knowing you are making a difference. If you answered yes to one or more of these questions then volunteering at Heartland Hospice might be just what you are looking for. We believe our mission is to enrich lives. That begins with every life we encounter:

What is hospice care?

Hospice is designed to provide comfort care as well as spiritual and emotional support to people in the final phase of a terminal illness. Hospice stresses human values that go beyond the physical needs, so that each client can spend their final days in dignity and comfort.

What will you do?
You will become an important part of a support team of volunteers and professionals assuring that your fellow volunteers are recognized for their efforts and kept up to date on their client's needs. These are some of the activities you can do with your patient.

  • Provide relief for family caregivers
  • Read to patient
  • Play cards or games
  • Play instrumental music
  • Pray with patient
  • Provide companionship
  • Art at the bedside
  • Have great and meaningful conversations
Benefits to volunteering:
  • Flexible schedules
  • Learn new skills
  • Meet new people
  • Make a difference
  • Rewarding - Gives more than it takes
  • It's healthy for you - long-term volunteers have longer lives, less disease and better overall health
  • Have fun!

Please note the minimum age requirement to volunteer is 16 for office volunteers and 18 to visit patients. If an adult will volunteer with their 16 or 17 year old then the teen would be able to visit patients.

Commitment for summer opportunities is 40 hours (usually 4 hours per week). If you are interested in this opportunity please send in your application now (should be attached to this email). If you do not receive the attachment you can email teri.brown@hcr-manorcare.com.

Description

Heartland Hospice is an organization made up of a dedicated team of Nurses, Home Health Aides, Spiritual Coordinators, Social Workers, Bereavement support, Medical Directors, office staff, and volunteers that desire to give a full circle of care to patients with advanced stage illnesses.

Volunteers are the most important component in helping the staff give a full circle of care to our clients. They can visit clients in their home or facility, give caregiver relief, make crafts and gifts items for the clients, office support, and much more...

Without volunteers our clients would lack in receiving the love and care they need during their most difficult journey.
