Mission or Broader Program Description: The Griffith Park Adult Community Club is housed at The Griffith Park Adult Community Center (GPACC) on Riverside Dr., south of Los Feliz Blvd. The club was established in 1999 at Silver Lake Recreation Center and has been affiliated with Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks Federation of Senior Citizen Clubs since 2000 when it was organized as the Silver Lake Senior Club. In 2008 Griffith Park Adult Community Center opens its doors, and Silver Lake Senior Club became GPAC Club. The club works with the Griffith Park Adult Community Center Facility Director to provide quality programming. The club is also responsible for fundraising to support the activities at the center, arranging for trips, recruitment of members and volunteers, and a monthly newsletter. Our members come from a wide geographic area - Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Franklin Hills, Los Feliz, and Silver Lake and beyond.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: GPACC has a small garden adjacent to the Community Center Building. The garden is calling for some tender loving care with the help of weeding, fun times in harvesting, and the feel-good help of cleaning up the raised beds. They also host regular plant/produce sales.
Requirements: Include but not limited to any of the following: A passion for gardening and plants Knowledge of proper plant care Basic building/construction skills Reliability and organizational skills Responsibilities include but not limited to any of the following: Clean, weed, and restore current plants Organize pots, planters, and supplies effectively Rearrange space for most effective use.
