Do you love s'mores around the campfire, arts and crafts and games? We are looking for a group of fun, energetic counselors and other volunteers for KAT-FISH Camp, our juvenile arthritis family camp. KAT-FISH Camp is taking place from July 26-28 at Warm Beach Camp in Stanwood, WA. Campers range from as young as 2 months to 18 years old.
Counselors play an essential role in the success of camp. The basic duties of the counselors are to assume responsibility for the welfare of the kids or teens in their group during assigned times and to be certain that each child makes the best possible use of their stay at KAT-FISH Camp. This includes ensuring that the group arrives on time to activities, monitoring the safety and behavior of the group, encouraging children to try a new skill or activity, helping with crowd control and modeling enthusiasm and excitement for the activities. Counselors must be onsite for the duration of camp (late afternoon of Friday, July 24 through mid-day on Sunday, July 26).
Characteristics of a good counselor include:
- Leadership-the ability to lead others by setting a good example
- Appreciation for people-patience, good humor, accepting of differences
- Empathy-the ability to put yourself in the place of others and sense how they feel
- Selfless-finding satisfaction in doing a good job and serving others
We are also seeking volunteer photographers, activity specialists and generalists at camp! Volunteers must be over the age of 18.
All volunteers will complete an interview, reference check and background check prior to camp. Training is provided online prior to camp as well as onsite the first night. Volunteers receive free housing and food during their time at camp.
