Clear Blue Sea (CBSea) is a San Diego nonprofit startup dedicated to cleansing the oceans of plastic pollution. As a startup with a proven engineering baseline and established internship program, we are now looking for help with nonprofit administrational work, including financial planning and analysis across multiple Clear Blue Sea projects including FRED prototyping.

We are looking for a volunteer or intern to assist with financial planning and analysis to help further Clear Blue Sea’s mission and efforts. This position offers flexible hours with specific roles and responsibilities defined in collaboration with the CBSea team. If you are passionate about saving the oceans and have a knack for math or financials, please get in touch!

Examples of financial administration tasks include:

  • Weekly financial review of all projects and overall program
  • Reporting to CBSea Program Review Board on all project budgets
  • Analysis of past budget performance to inform future budget planning
  • Reimbursement tracking and processing for CBSea staff
  • Preparation of financials for tax document or proposal development
  • Organization of financial documents for CBSea repository
  • Attend biweekly meetings with Clear Blue Sea leadership to present status, brainstorm issues, discuss next steps, and secure guidance and collaboration as needed

Here are capabilities and attributes we look for in our interns and volunteers:

  • Passionate about finding and implementing solutions to remediate the oceans of plastic pollution
  • Excited about applying math and financial skills for furthering Clear Blue Sea’s projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to a general audience and work collaboratively with the Clear Blue Sea marketing, engineering, and business teams
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and documenting strategies and implementation planning

Clear Blue Sea's mission is to cleanse the oceans of floating plastic pollution by operating fleets of unmanned marine robots powered by renewable energy.

Description

CLEAR BLUE SEA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in San Diego, CA with a mission to cleanse the oceans of plastic pollution. Clear Blue Sea’s innovative marine debris removal system is an unmanned, solar-powered Floating Robot for Eliminating Debris (FRED). Three small-scale FRED prototypes have been built and tested in Mission Bay and several new FRED projects are currently in work, including a FRED Do-it-Yourself (FREDDY) Instructional Package and the design of a 50-foot FRED to be implemented in Hawaii as a pilot. Our FRED projects have involved over 200 student interns as we are dedicated to training and mentoring younger generations in methods and innovations needed to increase awareness of ocean plastics and solutions for ocean cleanup and conservancy.
