Oakland Serves is looking for mentors to help McClymonds High School students graduate. We address a critical problem in our city: the alarming number of high school students who drop out before earning a diploma. We work with OUSD to find students identified as being at risk of failing, help them persist to graduation and thereby improve their career prospects, their personal well-being, and the quality of life in the community. We are looking for mentors for Fall of 2019 at McClymonds High School. All it takes is a background check, up to a three hour, once a week, volunteer commitment and a big heart. We put mentors in high school classes that have high failure rates. We work with students that need extra support to keep them on the path to graduation. Don't let the door shut on these students. Description
Since 2018, Oakland Serves has been helping high school students graduate, focusing on underserved and minority communities in which students may face a variety of challenges that impede their success. We work with OUSD, with schools and teachers to identify where our mentors can have the biggest impact on student achievement. We match our volunteer mentors with whole classrooms and with individual students as needed to increase the ability of as many students as possible to progress to graduation.
