As an AmeriCorps member with MetroWest/Greater Worcester you’ll join an affiliate full of AmeriCorps alumni who are excited to be part of your journey. Members can expect to gain an in-depth knowledge of residential construction, task and volunteer management, public speaking and community development. Most importantly during a year of service with Habitat for Humanity MWGW members can expect to have FUN in a safe, comfortable environment. During members off hours they can explore the hiking trails of Mt. Wachusett, the diverse foodie culture of Worcester, visit varying cultural museums as well a botanical garden. Worcester is also just an hour away from Boston, Massachusetts, Providence Rhode Island and Nashua New Hampshire. Join our Habitat family and form lasting relationships all while creating affordable housing for children and families!
The member serving in this role will be part of the AmeriCorps team that will give the necessary boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our Critical Home Repair (CHR), Veteran Critical Home Repair (VCHR), A Brush With Kindness (ABWK), Rehab, and new construction projects. With the assistance of the AmeriCorps members serving in this role, we anticipate completing 1 home build, and starting 4 additional home build projects and 12 VCHRs/CHRs. A secondary goal of this position is to have members cultivate and train volunteers to act as site leaders. We view the construction crew leaders as integral to our goals of building more homes and better neighborhoods and communities throughout our service area.

Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity -- MetroWest/ Greater Worcester is an independently-operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Founded as an affiliate in 1985, we are a non-profit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry dedicated to making shelter a matter of conscience. Building relationships and community is as important to us as building homes. We welcome people of all faith affiliations and backgrounds to join together in partnership and lend a hand to those in need of simple, decent, safe, affordable housing.
Description
At Habitat for Humanity--MetroWest/Greater Worcester (HFH-MW/GW), our motto is "A hand up, not a handout." We are dedicated to building houses with families, not for them. We partner with hardworking families who earn between 25% - 60% of the area median income and do not qualify for other homeownership programs. Not only do Habitat families pay for their homes through a monthly mortgage, they also put in between 400 and 500 hours of sweat equity prior to becoming homeowners.
The Habitat for Humanity-MetroWest/Greater Worcester also has a retail outlet, ReStore. ReStore is a retail outlet that sells quality, gently-used and surplus construction and home improvement materials as well as home furnishings for a fraction of regular retail prices. The ReStore offers great deals on building supplies, making your home improvements more affordable while providing much needed funding for the work of Habitat for Humanity-MetroWest/Greater Worcester.
