Richmond Peace Education Center is currently seeking a Youth Development Intern to help our small office both focus and develop its social media presence. This is a great opportunity for current students or recent grads looking for behind-the-scenes experience in either the nonprofit sector, or social media campaigns for businesses.
Responsibilities
- Assist with development of programs related to Jackson Ward Youth Peace Team and East End Youth Peace team, and Richmond Youth Peace Project;
- Aid in community based partnerships that are associated with Youth programming
- Knowledgeable of ACEs
- Be aware of housing developments in Richmond and sensitive of the needs of those in those communities
- Report and make observations after each youth programming
- Attend RPEC-sponsored events as needed
Qualifications
- Experience with youth programming, preferably middle and high school level
- Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, an undergraduate or graduate program of study;
- Major or specialization in education,leadership, physical education, social work, or relevant experience;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Energetic, self-starter, with flexible and positive attitude;

Description
Founded in 1980 by community members and people of faith concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the Richmond Peace Education Center works to advance peace locally and globally. With over 800 members, it is the largest, and the oldest, organization of its kind in the Richmond area. The center conducts public education on war and militarism and sponsors the Richmond Youth Peace Project, a coalition of high school students that promotes nonviolence through performing arts. The Richmond Peace Education Center has trained hundreds of youth and prisoners in nonviolent conflict resolution techniques over the past decade. In addition, it publishes a bimonthly newsletter with a circulation of about 1,000.
