Poverty Simulation "Staffer"

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: United Way of Martin County/AmeriCorps Seniors

Martin Volunteers is a program of United Way that recruits volunteers for non-profit agencies in Martin County.

The mission of the organization where this opportunity is located is to create learning opportunities that improve individuals and communities.

Volunteers are needed to play the role of the "staffers" which represent the typical businesses and agencies in the community: the bank, the grocery store, school, employer, social services agency, etc. Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families in Martin County, but the daily struggles can be an abstract idea for those who have never experienced it firsthand. This simulation bridges that gap from misconception to understanding. An interactive immersion experience, this event aims to sensitize community participants to the realities of poverty. The goal is to enlighten Martin County's residents in order to better advocate for problems suffered by under resourced locals.

A for minute training prior to the simulation date is required. Dates and times for the training are flexible.

Requirements include being able to sit and stand for long periods of time for this one day event.
