Information Technology/SECURE System Intern - Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department (unpaid internship)

Functions of Agency/Department:

The OC Clerk-Recorder Department handles property records, marriage licenses, marriage ceremonies, birth certificates, death certificates and oversees the historical materials in the Orange County Archives.

In addition, the OC Clerk-Recorder Department is responsible for recording documents related to all real-property transactions that occur within Orange County. Documents submitted to the Department are recorded and made part of the public record.

The Systems Division is responsible for an Electronic Recording Delivery System (ERDS), which allows the County of Orange the opportunity for paperless transactions. Currently the Clerk-Recorder’s Office collaborates with multiple agencies to operate the current ERDS database known as "SECURE." This stands for "Statewide Electronic Courier Universal Recording Environment."

As the Lead County, the OC Clerk-Recorder Department handles all manner of maintaining the SECURE ERDS System, including ongoing expansion and certification activities.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:

Interns may provide staff support with the following projects

  • Coordination with pending submitter companies
  • Assistance with documentation in cloud storage
  • Website content and formatting updates
  • Initial response to help requests
  • Support of the SECURE ERDS System.

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college/university and have knowledge of basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.


Skills, Training or Qualifications:

Students who are interested in IT and have basic computer skills are strongly encouraged to apply. A basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is desired, but not required. Experience with HTML is a plus, but not required.


Time Commitment:

Minimum 8 hours per week for 2 to 4 months. Hours must be scheduled in 2- to 8-hour blocks of time during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for this internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
