The Military Outreach Associate serves by providing support with military relations activities for the Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC). The objective of this role is to help develop the capacity of the Military Relations program to serve more military families in El Paso and Teller Counties and to have a greater positive economic impact within the Pikes Peak Region.

Primary Duties

  • Work one-on-one with job seekers to evaluate and suggest edits to federal resumes
  • Answer federal resume format-related questions and provide constructive feedback to customers.
Other Essential Duties
  • Serve as a backup facilitator for Federal Jobs: How to Apply workshops
  • Assist with presentations that are given to the public about the specific programs that are available at PPWFC
  • Compile promotional materials for use in community outreach events outside of the office
  • Staff information table and provide general information to the public at events such as career fairs
  • Provide direction and support for job seekers and community partners attending outreach activities
  • Public speaking, to include assisting with facilitation of professional development workshops and informational presentations
  • Adhere to PPWFC customer service standards at all times
  • Complete tracking of volunteer hours, tasks completed, etc., as appropriate for position.
  • Attend meetings, trainings and events as requested and when possible
  • Understand and adhere to all programmatic and agency policies, especially those concerning confidentiality
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with USAJOBS.com and writing Federal resumes
  • Experience directly related to duties of position highly preferred
  • Proficient with standard office equipment such as computer, multi-line telephone, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • The ability and willingness to learn and adapt to change
  • Commitment to provide excellent customer service
  • Comfortable working directly with a diverse population of customers and speaking in front of large groups
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks at once and remain flexible
  • A high degree of professionalism and a friendly, positive attitude

Term of Service

The volunteer must commit to a minimum of 6 months of service, at least 9 hours per month. Hours will vary based on organizational needs and scheduled events within the community. Normal hours of operation at PPWFC are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Training/Support Provided

  • Orientation to PPWFC and volunteer program will be provided
  • Position-specific training will be provided by PPWFC
  • Ongoing support from Operations Manager, Military Relations Specialist and designated department staff
  • Formal training on applying for Federal jobs and the Federal resume format

Department Military Relations

Reports to Operations Manager and Military Relations Specialist or Designee

Work Conditions Resume reviews with individual customers may be done at PPWFC offices or remotely. Occasional work may be done at other community locations, to include satellite offices and military installations. Transportation is the sole responsibility of the volunteer.

Selection, Training and Development Process

  1. Complete a PPWFC Volunteer Inquiry online at www.ppwfc.org
  2. Interview with the Operations Manager
  3. Pass a background and reference check
  4. Complete all necessary volunteer paperwork
  5. Complete mandatory orientation (provided by PPWFC)
  6. Complete mandatory position-specific training (provided by PPWFC)
