Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: THE MINING & ROLLO JAMISION MUSEUMS - Friends of the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums

We will need 2 -3 people to plant the foundation garden at the corner of Main Street and Virgin Avenue. Help for as long as you are able.

The Garden Terrace will include three primary garden beds - a foundation garden at the corner made up of perennials and shrubs that will look good in all seasons, a butterfly garden that will appeal to pollinators like hummingbirds, and a prairie garden composed of Driftless natives.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums is to continue in the pursuit of excellence in the areas of regional and mining history. To achieve that purpose, the museums are commissioned to be a custodian of the past; to interpret the rich lead and zinc mining heritage of the region, as well as to preserve, interpret, and display the artifacts that define Southwest Wisconsin.

Description

The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums are located on Main Street in Platteville, Wisconsin, in the heart of the historic Upper Mississippi Valley lead-zinc mining region. The Museums trace the development of culture in southwestern Wisconsin's Driftless Area starting with mineral mining, rural life, and the establishment of community. Galleries display fascinating and nostalgic models, dioramas, artifacts and photographs interpreting stories and music of home, school, farm and civic life in the Platteville region. Visitors tour exhibits of local history and mining, go underground and tour the 1845 Bevans Mine, and ride our 1931 mining train through the museum campus.
