Do you want to help low-income Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking seniors overcome technological barriers? Volunteer to tutor technology for seniors living at Valdez Plaza! We are looking for a volunteer to assist for 1-2 hours on a weekday morning or afternoon. Many of SAHA’s seniors living in affordable housing want to learn how to use their technology and have very little knowledge of how to operate and navigate a computer, a tablet and/or a smart phone. They have a strong desire and need to learn. Help these seniors operate their technology so that they can communicate with family and friends!
You would be teaching them the basics of how to know if they are signed into WiFi, how to send text messages, how to create an email account and how to send emails. They also want to know how to surf the Web and use apps on their tablets. If you're looking to make a difference in your community, this is a wonderful opportunity to gain teaching experience with students who are eager to learn.
There is some flexibility in when this volunteer opportunity is scheduled, but it must be Monday-Friday between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM

Requirements: Ongoing SAHA Community Volunteers must commit to volunteer once a week for a minimum of 4 months, and must complete a volunteer orientation, volunteer forms and background screening prior to beginning their placement.

Description
The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
