Drop In Sessions for teens (14-21) to work on Public Art Projects
ORGANIZATION: START SOCO
Please visit the new page to apply.
Aspiring young artists from the ages of 14 to 21 are encouraged to volunteer to work on public and community art projects. Currently we have a project "Art on Streets for Cleaner Creeks" where we paint fish that are present in local creeks, and then affix them near storm drains with a reminder that what goes into streets ends up in our creeks. Volunteers of any age are welcome at installations (contact Jennifer Tatum) to help with community outreach and education (Ok, a fancy way to say we need someone to hand out flyers, talk to people about the environmental and artistic portions of the project, talk up Artstart and ask for support). Look on line for more information at www.artstart.us and click on current projects. Thank you! We are also always looking for funding for this project, $500 paints one storm drain with fish and "flows to creek" lettering. Support your local creek and Artstart at the same time! It's fun! Thank you!

Description
For young aspiring artists to gain job skills while experiencing what earning a living being an artist. A tiered participation system is for youth between the ages of 14 and 21 to advance their careers while still in high school (or JC/college). An after school drop in Winter Program is open to all youth (Wednesdays at 4 pm) to learn basic artistic and interpersonal skills (team oriented). The Summer Program is a 5 week program that requires a portfolio submission for admission. At the end of this program, the new Artist’s Apprentices receive a $500 dollar scholarship. Returning Artist’s Apprentices are considered for Assistant Lead Artists and are encouraged to bring in projects to ArtstartSR as part of their training to deal with clients and the long process behind creating public, community and private artwork commissions. Our lead artists are professional artists and educational professionals whose artistic craftsmanship and professional experience are openly shared and encouraged. Our financials are available and we have a Bronze Seal of Transparency from Guidestar.com and are certified by SMU Data Arts. We are available to take on private and community art projects for your home, winery or other business in Sonoma County. ArtStartSR was established in 1999 by Liz Uribe and Eleanor Buchart, whose teenagers were talented young artists. The founders wanted to provide a summer work experience that would enable youth to learn more about earning a living with their artistic talents.
