Woman volunteer supporting male patient

No one should die alone! As a hospice patient begins to move closer to death, the fear of pain and dying increases. The Heartland Hospice Care Team and Vigil Volunteers comfort these fears and provide quality end-of-life support during the final stages of life.

Vigil Volunteers receive specialized training to familiarize themselves with the signs and symptoms of approaching death, as well as how to provide support to our patients. Vigil Volunteers are a great source of comfort for both patients who would otherwise die alone, and to families who may need a break or some extra support as their loved one nears death.

A 2-step TB test, driver's license, background check, and orientation are required for all volunteers. If you are interested in hearing more about our Vigil Volunteer Program, please contact Jessica at: 505-323-1464.
