Animal Management section on Micke Grove Zoo is currently accepting volunteer applications for Zoo Cleanup positions.

These volunteers will be trained by Animal Management staff to assist with the following projects:
1. Horticultural projects such as raking leaves, removing leaf litter and weeds, watering plants, and disposing leaf litter
2. Cleaning animal carriers, animal enrichment items, nets, and other items
3. Re-organizing offices and storage rooms
4. Cleaning and wiping windows and animal signs
5. Assisting in the daily cleanup duties in the Animal Kitchen

Volunteer Applicants Must have:
1. A strong commitment to advance the zoo’s goals in supporting animal conservation, education and welfare.
2. A positive demeanor
3. The ability to be focused and detail oriented
4. A positive work ethic
5. Team work ability

Description

Micke Grove Zoo is a captive wildlife center that is owned and run by a County government in California. This facility breeds threatened wildlife in captivity to support their conservation. Conservation education programs are conducted at the zoo to promote local knowledge on wildlife conservation. Volunteers are trained at this facility and some of them are hired on a regular basis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18
  • Available to volunteer at least 1. one 4-hour shift per week - either 8:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. or 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., and 2. for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Able to work outdoors in the summer heat, and 2. Must have a negative tuberculin (TB) skin test (or lung x-ray) result conducted within the last two years.
