Looking for a great way to support kids and adults with Muscular Dystrophy WHILE teaming up with our LA County Fire Fighters?
LA County Fire Fighters are going to the streets May 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and would LOVE to have you team up and volunteer with us!

One of the most important elements of this event are the volunteers that support our hardworking fire fighters while they are out in the intersections. In order to help our fire fighters be successful we are depending on you. It is very important that you can work the full shift, 9:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are looking for volunteers for one, two or all three days!

Local Fire Fighters will be standing at the designated intersection asking for donations from people in passing automobiles to fill their boots to raise money for the MDA. As an MDA volunteer you will be responsible for the following:

  • Set up signs down the streets that leading to intersection
  • Wrap large stickers around boots
  • Distribute waters to the fire fighters throughout the day
  • Help to hang large banner on the side of the reserve engine (banners can’t go on engines that are on duty, ask any of the fire fighters if the engine arriving is a reserve engine or on-duty engine)
  • Make sure each firefighter has 1 boot for collecting donations
  • Set-up operation area to keep water and other supplies
  • Distribute small stickers to each firefighter
  • As boots become full, fire fighter will empty boots into canvas bags in the trunk of volunteers' car
  • Supplies should be stored at closest fire station and used again for the next day
  • Donations will be given to the last shift of fire fighters covering the intersection. They will take donations to counting station.

All the funds raised through our Fill-the-Boot campaign will stay in the area to provide services for the families affected by neuromuscular disease. By participating, you will be doing your part to combat more than 43 types of muscle disease and you will also be making a difference in so many lives. MDA strives to find life-saving treatments and cures that will save lives and has come to depend on the generosity and support of local volunteers just like you.
