Mission Statement

The Mission of the Fall Mountain Food Shelf is to provide a nutritionally balanced supply of food to those in need. We serve low-income families and individuals in the Fall Mountain area, many of whom are elderly and on fixed incomes. The Food Shelf has served the community since 1980 and welcomes everyone in the five surrounding towns. No one is turned away and all who come for help are treated with the utmost respect by the caring staff of compassionate volunteers.

Description

Fall Mountain Food Shelf is one of three programs within the Fall Mountain Friendly Meals organization founded in 1980. They are the Fall Mountain Food Shelf, Friendly Meals, and Meals on Wheels, each entirely volunteer-operated with no paid staff or administrative costs.

The Fall Mountain Food Shelf provides emergency food supplies to individuals and families lacking sufficient means to purchase nutritious foods. Our scope includes children, adults, the elderly, unemployed, handicapped, retired poor, and any unable to adequately provide for themselves or their families in Sullivan, Windsor, Cheshire, and Windham counties, and surrounding towns. The Food Shelf turns no one away.

In 2018, families and individuals visited our Food Shelf 12,476 times for help with food and personal hygiene products. Most families visited multiple times throughout the year, with the Food Shelf turning none away. Families making multiple visits averaged 3.8 members and represented 47,975 clients served. We also provided 743 Thanksgiving dinner boxes in 2018.
