Volunteer Art Ambassadors are needed to support an Art in Public Places special project: River Crossing by British artist, Joshua Sofaer ( https://www.joshuasofaer.com/about/ ) The project will invite individuals to nominate someone to be commemorated by having the public dock in Sacramento or West Sacramento named after them. The nomination period is from May 25 to July 10, 2019. Volunteers will help spread the word about the project and encourage residents from both cities to make nominations. Volunteer Art Ambassador activities will involve a 2-hour training session with the artist, which will include an introduction to the project, an overview of socially-engaged art, an opportunity to participate in the nomination process and a verbal communication skills workshop. Volunteer Art Ambassadors must attend one, 2-hour training session on Saturday, May 25 th or Sunday, May 26 th from 10 am to 12 noon at the Crocker Art Museum. After training, Volunteer Art Ambassadors will choose at least 1 day to join the River Crossing team at a community event: Saturday, May 25 th, Waterfront Days Event in Old Sacramento, 1-5 pm, Sunday, May 26 th, Waterfront Days Event in Old Sacramento, 1-5 pm, Sunday, June 2 nd, River City Marketplace at The Barn in West Sacramento, 11 am-4 pm, Saturday June 8, Sacramento Pride from 11 am-5 pm and Sunday, June 9 th Sacramento Pride from 11 am- 5 pm. Minimum age to volunteer is 16. Volunteers should have an interest in public art, and be open to communicating with the public.
