Literations is looking for volunteers to serve at Hyde Park's Boston Renaissance Charter School. Reading coaches work one-on-one with young readers grades one through four. Coaches give students the opportunity to practice and strengthen their reading skills through 30-minute structured coaching sessions twice weekly, using our proven, evidence-based program.
Nearly 70% of fourth graders in Greater Boston public schools are not reading at grade level. And students are likely to be further off pace this fall due to the pandemic.
Join our volunteer team and help students become stronger readers!
The commitment is 4-5 hours per week (served over 2 days, 2+ hours each day) for the remainder of the school year*.
School opportunities are typically available between 8:30 am - 2:30 pm, Mondays - Thursdays.
You will work with the same students every week to develop a relationship, serve as a mentor, and see meaningful improvement in their reading skills.
No previous teaching experience is required - just a desire to help children become better readers!
Literations provides extensive pre-service training to give you the tools you need to help students thrive. Our volunteers are supported by a Site Team Leader and attend monthly professional development meetings for ongoing support.

Our Unique Model
- Our exclusive focus on students in 1st-4th grade results from the growing body of research that indicates this is the juncture that has the most impact on a child’s lifelong success.
- Providing more time to practice reading skills with trained volunteer coaches using a structured curriculum provides students with the skills and confidence to succeed.
