The Triangle Literacy Council's Juvenile Literacy Center is looking for tutors to work with students during the summer holidays. Our students are 6-17 and are Kindergarteners through rising 12th graders. Tutoring will take place twice a week in local libraries around Wake County. The students and their tutors generally meet twice a week for 1.5 hours per session.
We understand that summer holidays can mean unpredictable schedules. We will do our best to remain flexible with both students and tutors but do ask for prior notice before any missed/canceled sessions.
Before beginning tutoring, you will be asked to complete a short online training course to introduce you to our training materials and share the basics of lesson planning for our student population. During your time volunteering with the JLC, you will be asked to create basic lesson plans for your student. You will be given access to an online database of lesson plans and educational materials that can serve as tools for creating these plans. Most volunteers dedicate a maximum of 5 hours a week to this role.
During the summer, we have opportunities for tutors to work together or for tutors to work with more than one student at a time. If this is something that you may be interested in, please let the Program Manager know.
