The Center Docents are an enthusiastic group of volunteers who share the magic of Segerstrom Center for the Arts with thousands of people each year through in-depth behind-the-scenes tours. This important group of volunteers are dedicated to sharing the story of Segerstrom Center for the Arts with various groups who come to the Center for a tour as part of a field trip, family outing, or as part of their corporate event.
What is a Docent?
A Docent is a tour guide who leads observation and inquiry-based tours. No formal training or prior experience is required to become a Center Docent - we will train you on what you need to know! Enthusiasm, friendliness, and commitment are the main qualifications needed.

Below are details of what is involved in becoming a member of this ambassador group:
- Training: Complete six training sessions to learn tour route and memorize the tour script for the full campus. Sessions are scheduled on Mondays from 9 am - 12 noon, for 6 consecutive weeks. Next training session is tentatively booked for January 27 - March 3, 2025.
- Tour Details: Docents must be comfortable giving a one-hour walking tour without notes, ascending and descending several flights of stairs, and engaging tour groups of all ages. While the majority of our tours are conducted in English, bi-lingual candidates encouraged to apply.
- Tour Commitment: A Center Docent agrees to lead a minimum of 10 tours per year, attend membership meetings to continue their education about the Center, and attend safety training. Tours are typically scheduled in the morning as to not interfere with the production schedule.
- Meetings: Membership meetings are monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 9 am - 12 noon, September - April. (December and May meetings/luncheons are optional.) These meetings provide a forum for continued education as well as enriching field trips.
- Dues: Center Docents contribute $55.00 annual membership dues that support Docent field trips, special meeting programs, off-set the cost of luncheons, and support of education department summer camp programs.

As Orange County’s largest non-profit arts organization, Segerstrom Center for the Arts owns and operates the 3,000-seat Segerstrom Hall which opened in 1986, and the 2,000-seat RenĂ©e and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, which opened in 2006 and also houses the 500-seat Samueli Theater. These state-of-the-art facilities are united by the spacious Argyros Arts Plaza.
Segerstrom Center for the Arts is proud to serve as the artistic home to the region’s major performing arts organizations: Pacific Symphony, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and the Pacific Chorale.

- In addition to the 6 week training session, Docents agree to lead a minimum of 10 tours each year and attend monthly membership meetings September - May (May and December meetings are optional.) This is an average of 4-5 hours per month.
- Candidates must be able to stand, walk, and ascend/descend stairs, all while talking and engaging with guests for an hour at a time. Candidate commit to memorizing the tour script and learning the tour route throughout the training session.
