Event Description:
Join staff in helping to ensure that the trails of Durant Nature Preserve are safe and functional. Our trail system could benefit from some work and repair. Please come out and give us a hand mulching, covering large roots, and repairing the trail tread.
Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will repair the trail tread and will cover large roots and other parts of the trail with mulch. We will be using wheel barrows, shovels, and rakes.
Impact:
By making repairs to the trails at Durant Nature Preserve, we can ensure that they are safe and functional.
Work Environment:
We will be working outside on uneven ground as we perform trail maintenance tasks. There is a restroom on site.
Volunteer Requirements:
Pre-registration is required. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form. If anyone is under the age of 18, then a parent or guardian must sign their form as well. Volunteers under 16 years old will be required to have an adult on site during the entire event.
Special Instructions:
Please bring a water bottle, wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and clothing you can get dirty. We will supply the tools and work-gloves.
Group Registration Information:
Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
