Graduation Coach

The Young Women’s Resource Center is seeking volunteers to support a new summer initiative called "Project Graduation". Volunteers will provide Young Moms at the YWRC with one-on-one support needed to successfully complete credits and classes needed for high school graduation. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and at least one year of tutoring/ teaching or coaching experience. Ideal volunteers are friendly, responsible and have experience serving students with multiple barriers. Graduation Coaches are needed for shifts from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm or 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings, or 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Scheduling is flexible. Additionally, some remote opportunities to support Young Moms via text or social media may also become available. This volunteer opportunity is not available for short term volunteers (at least a 3 month commitment is required), or large groups. These guidelines help our clients build trust, familiarity, and relationships with their volunteers. An interviews and background check is required for this position. Description

The Young Women's Resource Center serves more than 1,600 young women each year through our 13 programs, including: support groups, individual counseling, and in-school and after-school programs.

Founded in 1978, this non-profit agency provides gender specific services to all young women ages 10-21 in central Iowa. Founder Louise Noun and other community leaders believed young women needed a safe place to receive support, education, and advocacy. A wide variety of services surrounding perinatal services and prevention services are provided in schools, community organizations, and at the Center.

Hours:
Monday-Thursday Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday Open 8 a.m.-Noon
