Remember when you were trying to make decisions about what path you would take after high school? Would you have appreciated having a tool that helped you see the possible outcomes of your choices and how they would affect your financial future? If so, you may be a perfect volunteer to guide teens through our Money Path lesson!

As they prepare to leave high school, teens are making major decisions about their futures, often without all the information they need. Money Path is a technology-based lesson delivered in a classroom setting that helps students to explore the different paths they can take after high school and how the financial realities of those choices may affect their futures. SecureFutures needs volunteers to lead these engaging, interactive, and impactful lessons.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Money Path program consists of one 90-minute lesson and takes place in a classroom setting (whether at a local high school or community based organization). Students learn by working through a browser-based app on their own individual computers. Volunteers guide students through their independent work, drive discussions, and check for understanding.

We provide our volunteer instructors with everything they need to be successful in the classroom! No experience is necessary, but comfort with simple technology and a basic understanding of financial goal-setting concepts (how to budget and save, why saving early is important) is helpful. We will provide the training, curriculum, and materials. We encourage professionals from all industries to volunteer. The most important thing is that you are passionate about working with teens!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The time commitment for this opportunity is small. You must be able to:

  • commit to deliver at least two lessons per year (about 90 minutes each)
  • attend a 1 hour webinar training

Once you sign up as a volunteer through the SecureFutures website, you will start to receive email notifications of upcoming opportunities, which are scheduled year-round. When an opportunity fits into your schedule, simply reply to the email!

Mission Statement

Our mission: Provide financial literacy programs and resources that empower teens to make sound financial decisions. Our vision: Build strong communities where students and their families make informed financial decisions and take control of their financial future.

Description

SecureFutures (formerly Make A Difference - Wisconsin) is a nonprofit agency founded in 2006 by area financial leader Lloyd Levin to bring together businesses, professionals and educators on the challenge of providing a solid financial education to every Wisconsin teenager.

Since, SecureFutures programs have reached more than 112,000 teens through our proven, measurable and timely lessons that prepare 16-to-18-year olds on a range of real-life money matters before they enter adulthood. This school year we plan to reach more than 10,000 students through our vision of improved teenage financial education shared by 800 dedicated volunteers, more than 150 schools and youth organizations, and thousands of community-minded supporters.

Volunteers are critical to our teen financial empowerment movement, and provide a lifeline for youth and a classroom complement for educators. All volunteers are trained and work from a proven financial literacy curriculum. If you believe every teen in the Milwaukee area deserves to feel confident and capable when it comes to personal finance, then join our movement by signing up today.
