Are you looking for something to do this summer? Are you passionate about encouraging people to read? Do you enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people and want to contribute to your community?
Every summer the Palmdale City Library holds a Summer Reading Program, where participants are encouraged to read and attend library programs. The program runs throughout June and July and is open to all ages.
We are seeking several individuals who can commit to helping library staff run the program.
A successful volunteer Summer Reading Program Helper will have the ability to:
- Instruct patrons on how to sign up for the program
- Answer questions about the program
- Mark patron progress on logs as directed
- Hand out appropriate prizes
- Provide great customer service to a diverse range of individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities
- Have a willingness to interact with people
- Follow oral and written directions

Description
Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
