Food Truck Friday Host Volunteer

Since Food Truck Fridays first launched in 2016, Balboa Park has become an increasingly popular date-night destination, giving thousands of park visitors and families a unique opportunity to sample a diverse, rotating selection of gourmet food trucks, serving everything from appetizers and main courses to desserts and specialty beverages, all in one convenient location.

Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays presents different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama. The Plaza’s "living room" setup will be rolled out, including a large artificial lawn for children to play on and giant family game sets. Various Balboa Park cultural institutions will also have booths set up with hands-on activities and crafts for kids.

Food Trucks will be along the El Prado walkway from 4:00 PM - 8:30 PM from Friday, May 31st to Friday, September 27th.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

As the Conservancy's aspires to transform our successful events to more sustainable levels, we are recruiting volunteers to outreach to park guests about the importance of recycling. These volunteers will stand by our waste stations placed throughout the event and make sure visitors place their waste in the correct bin (landfill (trash) and recycling) while also sharing proper recycling practices to visitors. You will receive training and perhaps learn something new with this volunteer opportunity. Be apart of our GREEN TEAM and we can make a difference together!

Time frame :

• Any Friday from Friday, May 31st - Friday, September 27th
• Must work at least 7 Fridays to qualify for Conservancy name badge. The badge will expire on the last volunteered Friday.
• Shifts are broken down into 3 different options:
  
  • 2.) 5:30 pm - 8:15 pm → In this shift volunteers will be informing guests on which items are recyclable versus landfill items, helping answer questions, and assisting with clean up.
    

Responsibilities:

• Stand by waste stations placed throughout the event and make sure visitors place their waste in the correct bin (landfill (waste) and recycling) and inform visitors on proper recycling practices.
• Help facilitate games in the Plaza de Panama.
• Help set up and put away beanbags, chairs, bar belly tables, and return them to basement.
• Set up and take down Balboa Park Conservancy canopies and platform.
• Help guard entertainer’s equipment while they load and unload.

Requirements:

• Familiar with Balboa Park
• Able to carry >20 lbs
