Volunteer Screeners are a person’s first welcome to the American Red Cross, Ohio Buckeye Region. It is important that they provide the perspective volunteer with an excellent experience! The Volunteer Screener gathers relevant information about a perspective volunteer while assessing which positions are suited to the candidate’s skill sets.

Screener responsibilities include:

• Schedules and conduct volunteer screenings over the phone with prospective volunteers
• Studies and learns each volunteer position description
• Prepares for each screening interview
• Asks identifying questions during the interview, appropriate to the volunteer position requested
• Provides candidates with information about intake, referral and placement process
• Matches volunteers to positions for which they are best suited, based on skills, interest and availability
• Updates Volunteer Connections (our online volunteer management system) with candidate information and makes referrals as required

Qualifications include:

• Broad understanding of the American Red Cross (training provided)
• Enthusiastic about Red Cross programs
• Ability to work with computer database (training provided)
• Excellent oral communication skills - ability to express ideas and facts clearly
• Comfortable making phone calls to potential volunteers
• Previous experience with customer service is a plus
• HR experience is a plus

Training is provided to the screeners at no cost. The Red Cross asks that screeners provide 8 hours of service a week.
