By serving as little as one hour a week, you can help prevent child abuse and neglect in Kalamazoo County. The Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council (KCAN) offers numerous opportunities to help, including planning fundraising events, assisting with ongoing administrative/marketing needs, office help, serving as a community liaison, speaking/teaching and joining our board of directors.

Our mission is to educate community members and advocate for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Our job is to prevent child abuse before it happens.
Description
KCAN started in March 1976 by volunteers from the Service Club (now Junior League of Kalamazoo) in response to the concern of many agencies within the county about the issues of child abuse and neglect. In June 1978, the council was incorporated as a non-profit corporation and received 501(c)(3) tax status.
