Keep Austin Fed (KAF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that gathers wholesome and nutritious surplus food from local commercial kitchens and retailers and distributes it directly to area nonprofits that serve people experiencing food insecurity. Their mission is to reduce hunger and help the environment by keeping food waste out of landfills. Astoundingly, 40% of the food produced in America never gets eaten, yet 1 in 7 Central Texans are living with food insecurity.
Volunteers are the backbone of KAF. Because of their amazing volunteers they can rescue healthy food and deliver it to over 10,000 hungry neighbors every week. KAF volunteers have rescued over 3 million pounds of food!
Becoming a KAF volunteer is simple and incredibly rewarding. Many of their volunteers make a big impact in less than 30 minutes. You will be provided training and logistical support. Flexible shifts and ongoing opportunities are available and volunteer appreciation and engagement events are held monthly. Contact us today to get started with this worthwhile organization!
