Improvisation is the fine art of mental discipline in creative interpretation, comedic storytelling, and nurturing personal expression. Come learn and play with the most legendary improvisational artists around with Unexpected Productions' Improv School!

Unexpected Productions at the historical Market Theater in Seattle, WA is looking for Volunteer Guest Services Associates for our Front of House (FOH). We are located at the infamous Gum Wall in the Pike Place Market: 1428 Post Alley, Seattle WA 98101.

Volunteers earn one full quarter of credits towards a UP class of their choice for each 32 hours of work completed at the Market Theater. There are varying levels of classes with more times, themes, and locations than we've ever offered before.

Our ideal candidate is self-driven, motivated, and engaged. Your main function is to help people feel welcome in our theatre, everything beyond that is a simple task to learn and put into practice.

Responsibilities

  • Sincerely welcome theatre guests
  • Help with theatre FOH operations
  • Maintaining an organized and tidy theatre
  • Promote the Unexpected Productions' community and events
  • Talk with guests to ensure they have a remarkable experience
  • Address and correct any concerns guests may have
  • Calmly manage crowds and high pressure situations
  • Pursue the objective to work towards a common goal

Qualifications

  • Availability during days of operation on evenings 6pm to 9pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday with preference for 6pm to 12am shifts on Fridays and Saturdays (you choose your own shifts)
  • Outgoing and caring personality
  • Willingness to listen and communicate with others
  • Demonstrates timeliness and sense of responsibility
  • Capacity to accurately use multiple POS terminals
  • Values attention to detail for creating an appealing theatre
  • Ability to remain flexible, follow directions with perception of urgency, and maintain a positive attitude in a fast paced environment
  • Previous experience in the service industry a plus, but not a requirement

For 34 years we have focused on the art of storytelling in its work, taking suggestions from YOU & weaving them into stories & scenes. They perform 10 shows a week and are the home of the most established improv school and corporate training program in the Puget Sound.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 13
  • Orientation or Training
  • Shifts are available by volunteer to choose, from 1 hour to 5+hours. Volunteers average shift is 2.5 hours and 4 hours weekly. Earn hours at your own pace, hours earned do not expire.
  • Must be able to work pleasantly and cooperatively with others. All backgrounds and skill levels welcome, we emphasize a learning environment.
