ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Working together on Nicollet Island , on June 11 from 6-8 pm, Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) staff and volunteers will dig in and plant over 600 native prairie plants! These prairie plugs will be planted in two 150-square-foot raised bed gardens along the newly installed pedestrian trail. Following this planting, identification plaques will be added to the garden allowing park visitors the chance to learn more about the stunning array of species coming up throughout the restored prairie.

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
