ORGANIZATION: Tampa Seafarers Center

This is a great opportunity to do International Missions without leaving home. The Seafarers Center is a hospitality center that caters to all of the Seafarers coming into the Port of Tampa. Our facility offers free Wi-Fi, SIM cards and a place to relax for crew members on the cruise ships. Our volunteers help us to manage all of these areas while interacting with our Seafarers. We also need drivers for our vans so that we can transport Seafarers from their ships to local stores.

Mission Statement

The Tampa Seafarers Center is a non-profit, multi-denominational Christian organization that seeks to provide an environment for meeting the physical, social, and spiritual needs of seafarers and others who use the failities of the Port of Tampa.

Description

The Seafarers Center provides it services to the more than 3000+ men and women that come to the Port of Tampa each week on board the cargo and cruise ships that serve our nation. These men and women come from all over the world and work in one of the most dangerous professions known to man. They incur long periods of lonliness and harsh working conditions and often refer to their job as "voluntary incarceration without visitation rights". These Seafarers often come to us in need of caring and just knowing that they are loved. Our mission is to provide them with a "homelike surrounding" where we often times have the opportunity to share the love of Christ with them and just encourage them.

Some of the services provided at the Center include: Free Wi-Fi so they can talk to family back home. SIM cards so they have internet and phone service on their phones. Transportation both to the Center as well as to local businesses such as Walmart and BestBuy.
