Are you interested in pursuing a meaningful career in library sciences?
Plano Public Library provides a welcoming environment for engaging our community, enriching lives and educating minds. Our vision is to be a valuable resource and partner that connects and serves our community with excellence. We value a focus on customers, good stewardship and innovation. Plano Public Library is seeking an unpaid intern/volunteer to make a commitment of 12 hours per week during spring or summer 2020. This intern would be primarily stationed at Davis Library with potential to assist other library locations.
Main activities may include:
- 3D printer technology - develop skills and perform tasks (assist with public demonstrations, print 3D print jobs for public, assist with projects).
- Circulation - (pulls patron holds, shelve, assist with administrative tasks)
- Programming - (programs include adult, teen, STEAM, preschool). Tasks include preparing for programs, set up/clean up and facilitating programs under the supervision of staff.
- May travel to other Plano Public Library locations for special projects (maker space activities).
Characteristics of a successful intern/volunteer include:
- Enrolled in a university and pursuing degree
- Has current TX Driver’s License
- Able to commit to 12 day-time hours per week during a semester
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Possesses interest and a desire to work in a public service environment
- Customer-service focused
- Experience in public speaking
- Artistic or creative skillset
- Comfort with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
- Possess previous experience with 3D printing or modeling is preferred
