The American Red Cross has partnered with AmeriCorps and BRACE, to provide VISTA Summer Associate positions to the South Florida Region.

The American Red Cross mobilizes volunteers every day to help families recover from disasters. We need your help to make this happen. The process of ensuring a workforce is trained, available, and recognized requires talented individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Through an internship with Community Preparedness, you will learn 21st Century skills by designing resources that volunteer leaders and paid staff members will use daily when working with volunteers.

Save lives and prevent injury by providing support to Disaster Cycle Services team members through Preparedness. The Pillowcase Project, Home Fire Campaign, Hands-Only CPR, Community Disaster Education and other programs are offered by Red Cross regions across the country.

Numerous tools have been developed to manage these programs including planning forms, data collection and reporting procedures, curriculum, workbooks, quizzes and activities. The Intern will be assisting with:

• support of the volunteers,
• organizing events,
• inputting data,
• being a presenter or presentation assistant, and overall program support.

These applications will allow you to interact with data and be part of the process of making data driven decisions surrounding volunteer engagement. This is not a Data entry position, you will be engaged in the process of resource creation, so bring your creativity! You will also be asked to present the resources you created to the staff and volunteers that will use them. Prepare for full immersion in a modern work environment through an internship with Community Preparedness.

Overview of Benefits and Support

In addition to making a credible effort to help people and communities escape poverty, Summer Associates receive benefits and support during and after successful completion of summer service.

• As a Summer Associate, you are eligible to receive:
• A $1,230.69 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or an end of service cash stipend that accrues at a daily rate of $4.11.
• On-site orientation and training
• A living allowance to cover necessities during service
• Access to the AmeriCorps Alumni network

VISTA Benefits

Living Allowance: VISTA members receive $472.22 bi-weekly/before taxes (may vary based on county assigned.)

End of Service Award:

Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award - $1,289.95 (continuing education/student loan)

End-of-Service Stipend - $345.80

Leave Benefits:
~ National Holidays: only those followed by your host site
~ Personal: 1 to 2 days that must be made up if needed
